Accessing Stirling Castle

Assistance Dogs are welcome in the Museum and Stirling Castle. They must be kept on the lead and not left unattended.

Quiet Times

Visit us during a Quiet Time, it is a great way to explore the Museum if you, a friend or family member, has Autism, Dementia or other additional needs and would prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. The Museum will be free of crowds, and video screens, interactives and sound will be turned down or off. We aim to provide a Quiet Time from 9.30 to 10.30 on the third Saturday of every month. 

We aim to provide a Quiet Time:

  • On the third Saturday of every month from 9.30am to 10.30am. Details can be found on the museum’s Events.
  • At other times by agreement, for families, community groups, schools and other educational organisations. Please contact clare@argylls.co.uk for further details.

Quiet Space 

A quiet space is available if you or a member of your group requires time away from the galleries. A member of staff or volunteer will show you to the room.

Sensory Bagpacks

  • Museum backpacks are available to borrow by contacting the museum. or by talking to member of staff at the entrance, or in the shop.
  • Contents include, adjustable ear defenders, magnifying glass, sand timer, sensory guide, fidget toys, activities and PEC Cards.

Accessible Tours

Virtual Tour

  • The tour can be viewed from any location via the museum’s Virtual Tour
  • To support visitors to the castle who feel they are unable to access the museum, the virtual tour can be viewed on a tablet in a warm and dry area of the castle. For further information contact the museum or speak to a member of staff.

Audio Tour Guides

  • The museum is included in Stirling Castle’s audio guide.
  • A guide may be hired at the entrance to the castle or purchased online when booking.
  • Available Languages: English (audio description available), Gaelic, French, German and Spanish.

Print Versions of the Castle’s Audio Guide

  • Available in large print and Open Dyslexic large print.
  • Download onto your own device.
  • Please ask a member of staff at the entrance to the castle for a copy.
